?? 37 Creative Business Card Holder Ideas to Inspire You 423 How to keep your business cards handy at work or on the go. Photo by System One Gang Employees need business cards. Job seekers need business cards. Do you have your own business cards right now? Yes No View Results But what's the point in having them if you can't quickly hand one out to someone you meet? Or worse, if you're embarrassed to hand one out because it got rumpled in your purse or wallet? That used to happen to me a lot at networking events. I would either forget my cards at home, or I would âforgetâ my cards at home even when I had some on me.eval My first ever business cards came in a simple cardboard box that wasn't practical to carry around, or nice enough to leave out on my desk for others to see.eval My second set were handed to me with an elastic around them. Ugh. Those were from different employers, but things improved when I started getting my own cards. The first batch came in a simple, transparent (lucite?) plastic container where you could leave the cover off and use the bottom as a tray. That was fine until it fell one day and cracked. Then I got creative. My old Iomega Clik! drive (a laptop accessory) carrying case looked very professional with it's brushed aluminum-like exterior, and the size was right so I repurposed it as a mobile card holder. That was great until my wife decided she needed it more than I do ? As I just recently bought a new batch of business cards from Zazzle, I started looking for ideas for a new case and here are some of the cool ideas I found. Free bonus: How To Find Great Freelance Designers Anywhere is a quick read of case studies and takeaways from people who have done it, with resources to help. Writing a Summary in Resume Sample
Writing a Summary in Resume SampleWriting a summary in resume sample is also one of the basic essentials to hire, like writing a CV, however, a lot of people tend to forget about it. Why you ask? Why is this so?It's true that CV, when a person is applying for a job, is the first thing that he or she see. When people are writing a CV, they are actually not writing a resume. CV sample is basically a list of information that a potential employer can read. CV sample should not be treated as CV in and of itself. You see, when you are writing a resume you are also writing a resume. Writing a summary in resume sample is just like writing a CV, but is not a CV. The resume writer is basically writing a summary in resume. When you are just looking for a job, you cannot afford to get overzealous with writing a resume. If you want to really impress people and to leave a lasting impression, then you must not waste your time trying to impress them with style and by writing a CV. It's the same thing when you are looking for a job, writing a resume is not what you need to do.Writing a summary in resume is not a skill that you will develop over the course of a year or two. It's a skill that needs to be honed and perfected over time. In this day and age, with the rapidly changing job market, you need to develop this skill. If you do not, you will run into problems, especially when it comes to finding a job.Resume writing is a business for those who do it. Like any other business, there are many competitors out there competing for your attention and dollars. If you try to impress others with style and with flashiness, you will become confused and lost in a sea of online programs, which offer the same service for less money.A summary in resume is the way to go when you are trying to impress others. It is more like writing a short but very powerful introduction to your resume. This can be done by simply cutting and pasting sections of the job description and listing the keywords that these sections include. It does not need to be written as fancy or to be grammatically perfect.Summary in resume is just a matter of combining keywords from the job description and listing them in an organized manner. The best example of this is to write a couple of sentences about the work you have done on the sales page of a company website. List all the keywords you used, like 'addition', 'addition and subtraction', etc. Write a paragraph or two, and then list all the achievements and the work you did to earn the position.

Are You Prepared to Make the Bold Leap - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career
Are You Prepared to Make the Bold Leap - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career During the course of our business, we sometimes see an improved path. But change is scary for many. The question becomes, will the benefit of taking the leap of faith be worthwhile? Should a recurring thought of âwhat ifâ¦â visit you on occasion, perhaps itâs time to give it a try. Most often it is the uncertainty and realization of intense learning that prevents people from moving forward. So entrenched in habit, itâs difficult to make the change. Will the process widen your scope of knowledge? And then will you be able to improve service to your clientele? To finally influence your indecision, create two lists: Everything that will need to be learned. The benefits from having learned the subject matter. Use the feeling of being under-valued as the motivator to move upward. Struggle When you feel yourself struggling with the work at hand, give due consideration to change. But also determine the root cause for the struggle. Does your reasoning include: Lack of respect Boredom A desire to do something newer? Decisions It is important to pursue work where contributions are made and appreciated. Otherwise, the effort just isnât worthwhile. Endeavoring in the same without seeing any type of reward may easily affect health. To even consider a change, determine your self-worth and how you may improve upon self-esteem. Ask yourself, if you donât value yourself who will? As a business professional, the game changer is to qualify and match the right client and collaborative opportunity. The same is true for ourselves in every regard. As we live up to our own priorities and values, the world opens up with far improved opportunity. Your Value One significant change is to move away from the model of being expected to donate time and expertise to make someone elseâ project a success. On the other hand, it is wise to include a small portion of your time to community service or benefiting an organization. It boosts you into a leadership position. Discuss Prior to making the leap into a new direction, have serious conversations with those who have gone before you. Ask for their advice. As more questions arise, continue to ask. Specifically, ask what they wished they had known when they started out. The reason is, shock sets in with the realization of how much there is to learn. The other idea to consider, is to not do a new venture entirely on your own. Explore whether there are trustworthy organizations that might need your help on newer projects. By combining forces with two or three (however many you can easily handle), the pressure is shared and will lessen the feeling of overwhelm. In addition, you will learn newer strategy in a shorter period of time. It is said that you should always be in pursuit of projects 20% over your comfort level. Explain you are a quick learner and love a good challenge! Ideas to Consider: Believe in yourself. Adapt positive thinking. Seek out new opportunities. Review your home page on Twitter to grasp current thought. Strive to build relationships with everyone you meet. Say âYes!â to exciting opportunity. Making the bold leap into something new will attract a far greater audience along with many admirers of your personal brand. Your answers to these questions may guide you to a Smooth Sale!

Personal Branding Interview David Aaker - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career
Personal Branding Interview David Aaker - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Today, I spoke to David Aaker, who I interviewed back in 2008. David is the Vice Chairman of Prophet and the creator of the Aaker Modelâ¢. He has published more than 100 articles and 14 books, including his latest called Brand Relevance. In this interview, David talks about brand relevance, what it means for companies moving forward, and examples. What is brand relevance? Brand relevance: To be relevant to a category or subcategory a brand needs to have the credibility and visibility to be considered. In brand relevance competition the goal is to develop offerings so innovative that competitors are simply not relevant. In contrast, brand preference competition, where the goal is to be superior to other brands in an established category, there is ongoing pressure on margins and profits. What are some examples of companies that have eliminated their competition through brand relevance? Apple has at least six times created or become the early market leaders of new categoriesâ"the iMac, iPod, iTunes, the Apple store, iPad, and iPhone in just over a decade. In automobiles there is Jeep, Ford Thunderbird, Ford Mustang, VW bug, Pontiac Firebird, Dodge Caravan and Plymouth Voyager, Lexus LS 400, Mazda Miata, Saturn, Prius, Minicooper, Nano, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, and Zipcar. In retailing, examples include: Zara, HM, Tokyo Hands, Best Buyâs Geek Squad, Whole Foods Market, Zappos.com, Muji, REI, and IKEA. Every industry has a host of examples. What is the process of creating âbrand barriersâ? The goal is to become the exemplar, the brand that represents the new category or subcategory, so that the brandâs benefits, its customer relationship, and even the brand name become part of the category or subcategory definition. So the Prius, as the exemplar of the compact hybrid, has been able to define for some a subcategory that includes hybrid synergy drive, a pleasing design, and high quality level. Competitors that lack those features will not be relevant for much of the market. What are the three vital tasks of brand relevance? First, to create a breakthrough new offering, there needs to be a strategic vision, including a well-defined target audience, that reflects a true unmet need and has the commitment of a dedicated CEO. Second, there needs to be a willingness and ability to manage the perception of and preference from the new category or subcategory. Third, the barriers to competitors need to be continually enhanced, so that the brand presents a moving target to competitors. How do you avoid having a brand go into decline? First, you need to maintain energy and visibility either by having an interesting new product program or by attaching your brand to something with energy such as the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade. Second, you need to make what they are buying. If a new competitive subcategory emerges, you can attempt to stick-to-your-knitting and fight, gain parity, leapfrog the new advance, or create a new business that is responsive. David Aaker is the Vice Chairman of Prophet and the creator of the Aaker Modelâ¢. He has published more than 100 articles and 14 books, including Managing Brand Equity, Building Strong Brands, Developing Business Strategies, Brand Leadership, Strategic Market Management, From Fargo to the World of Brands, and Brand Portfolio Strategy. Davids latest book is called Brand Relevance. He is also featured in a chapter of Conversations with Marketing Masters a collection of insights from some of the worldâs most influential marketing gurus. As the Professor Emeritus at the Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley, he has been awarded four career awards including the 1996 Paul D. Converse Award for outstanding contributions to the development of marketing.

Resume Content - How To Write Good Resume Content
Resume Content - How To Write Good Resume ContentThe first thing you need to do when you are writing a resume is to focus on your passion for the job you are applying for. If you love your job, then you will write a resume that tells that. It does not matter if you know a lot about the job and can do it well or not, if you are passionate about what you do then you will be writing a resume that people want to read. Focus on this in your resume and this will allow you to make the most of your time when you are reading through it.Another common mistake many people make is focusing on the work they have done in the past, which really isn't the main focus of the resume. You may have been trained in what you do, and you may even have good references from people that can vouch for you, but if you don't also focus on the work that you have accomplished then you won't be able to express how much of a professional you are. Remember that the objective of a resume is to get your future employer to want to hire you and it helps to be able to show off all of the things you have accomplished. The content of the resume is one of the most important things that you need to consider. No matter what job you are applying for, there is one area that is more important than any other and that is your resume content. A resume can only be as good as the content it contains, so it is important to give a lot of thought to what you want to say about yourself in the document. One thing you need to keep in mind is that the content you put on your resume has to be relevant to the job you are applying for. In other words, you need to ensure that the content you put on your resume will help you get the job you are applying for.Take some time to think about what you want to say about yourself in the document and then write down what you think you should say on your resume, not how you feel or what you need. This will give you a general idea of what you need to say, so you can choose the best conte nt for your resume. Once you have determined what you need to say, then you will have an idea of what you want to say about yourself and what you can accomplish for the job you are applying for.Sometimes people put too much information in their resume and that is why they get a job offer after they have been interviewing for a while. The information that you have put on your resume can be a little too much, but that doesn't mean that you don't have to work hard to show that you have more to offer than the job you are applying for.You need to ensure that the content you put on your resume is something that you can focus on all day long and that you can devote most of your time to writing it. Then you can take your time and ensure that the information that you put on your resume is relevant to the job you are applying for.Don't be afraid to go overboard with the content you write on your resume. Give your prospective employer something to remember you by, and that is what you can do b y simply adding some quality content to your resume. Get started today and put your resume into action.

What Do You Mean, Youre Taking a Walk You Have Job-Hunting to Do! - Kathy Caprino
What Do You Mean, Youâre Taking a Walk You Have Job-Hunting to Do! Last night, I participated as a speaker in a powerful panel workshop in Connecticut on Creative Strategies for Your Job Search and Career Transition, a âRewrite Your Tomorrowâ event sponsored by Jaffe Life Design (www.jaffelifedesign.com). It was a very moving experience, an empathic and genuine sharing of men and women in all phases of career change â" some laid off, some wanting to reinvent, some starting their own businesses â" and all were in deep transition. To me, the most compelling theme that emerged was around the idea of self-care, and how challenging it is today to do whatâs healthy, positive, and enlivening for ourselves. We all know cognitively what we need to do to take care of our bodies, minds, and souls, but precious few of us really do it each day, especially now, in times of chaos. Why is that? Why do we resist doing the very things that always make us feel better, more energized, hopeful, and powerful? There are several reasons why we donât do what makes us feel good: 1) We feel guilty about giving to ourselves, especially when weâre in fear, or when we believe we should be doing even more work to help ourselves (like sending out another 10 resumes to find a job) 2) We buckle under the pressure of others (spouses, friends, colleagues) who judge and criticize us if we take time out to care for ourselves 3) Deep down, we donât believe that we deserve to be well-treated or cared for, even by ourselves 4) And finally, when weâre locked into fear and scarcity mode, it takes a good deal of energy and commitment to disengage from that familiar anxiety and malaise that weâve been perpetuating So what is self-care anyway and how can you do it? To me, self-care means attending to your body, spirit, and emotions. Itâs giving back to yourself each day fueling, restoring and replenishing yourself, after having given so much away each day. How should you do it? There are millions of ways â" from taking a walk or taking a bath, turning off your computer when youâre exhausted, having fun or having sex, or seeing a movie that makes you laugh or cry. Itâs eating delicious, fresh food, drinking lots of cool water, and exercising in enjoyable ways too. Most importantly, itâs not work itâs whatever you find exciting, fun and restorative â" itâs what brings balance, peace and joy to your life and body. As a career transition coach, Iâd like to offer this official proclamation now â" stop looking for a job, and starting living again. Find the fun, be like a child again â" laugh, dance, sing, make a painting, start over, see it anew. Our world has been âreset.â Nowâs the time to do the same âresetâ your life to nurturing, forgiving and loving yourself each day. (Im going for a walk now!)

My Co-workers Talk Too Much! - Hallie Crawford
My Co-workers Talk Too Much! Your talkative co-worker wants to talk to you all the time about conversations totally unrelated to work. You have work to do and the quicker you do it, the quicker you can go home instead of working overtime. What do you do? Co-workers can interfere with your time if you let them. Your goal is not to let them. How? Here are some effective ways to handle those oh-so-talkative co-workers: Say, âIâm sorry, I canât talk right now, but would you like to have lunch with me today and we can talk then?â Put a note on your cubicle or office that simply says, âNot available until 2:00 p.m.â When your co-workers walk to your desk, stand up to encourage them not to sit down. Say, âIâm working on something now, but I can meet you to talk at break this afternoon at 3:00.â Put books or papers in your empty chair so your co-worker will have to stand up. Walk to the door of your cubicle or office so that your co-worker will follow. Explain you are unavailable due to deadlines but would like to talk later. The key to the effectiveness of all these strategies is following through in actually meeting your co-worker at break or lunch to chit-chat. In doing so, you demonstrate that you want them as friends and you are modeling effective time management skills for them. You may not be able to break their talkative habits, but you can control when you allow them to interrupt you while youâre working. And, the more you can control when they interrupt, the sooner you can go home at night. Isnât time management a wonderful thing? and Terry L. Wynne, Ed.S., LPC, BCC Certified Career Coaches P.S. How do you know if your resume is good? Take this Resume Quiz to find out how to keep your resume out of the trash can.
